I think what helps in making an apartment feel like home is to be able to arrange it the way you like it, and to keep working on the small details. It was easy to do in the Netherlands, with lots of shops offering affordable decorations, home accessories, linens, china, kitchenware, plants etc; unfortunately it’s much more difficult to do in Poland. But recently I’ve come across a Polish website which offers – can you believe it – unique and creative furniture pieces: glamstore.com.pl . I may not be entirely sold to the idea of buying furniture on-line, but they certainly have some funky and eye-catching pieces, which – if you like them – are going to be a great highlight of your individual taste in whatever room you put them in. So check out the website if you’re looking for something like this, and here are a few pieces which caught my eye:
I look through the window and it’s the most depressing weather we’ve had so far this autumn – cold, wet, windy and gloomy. So I’m staying in and thinking fondly of the times when I used to have an apartment I loved, where I could always curl up on sofa with one of my creative hobbies or just a book and a cup of tea, and feel warm, secure, happy and at home. I’m sure you know the feeling, but have you ever wondered where exactly lies the line between a roof over your head, and a warm, homey nest? Sure, part of it is family, but apart from that, there are some interiors that make you feel instantly well and at home, and some which seem cold and hostile. The weather outside is getting more and more depressive by the hour, and all sorts of outside activities are getting less and less attractive. This means that the times come when we’ll be spending more time indoors, and part of it – sitting down. And if we do have to sit, why not sit on something really unique and creative? One great possibility are the chairs and armchairs designed by the Italian company Cappellini – here is on overview: Original, aren’t they? And here are a few of the most eye-catching pieces from their collection – you can find more at www.cappellini.it . Enjoy!
I’m on a look-out for shops in Warsaw which sell cute and not horrendously expensive home decorations, but so far I have found none. So while I continue my search, I’m also browsing the Internet and I fell in love with those charming and creative ways of storing knickknacks I’ve found on this website. I wish I had some stairs at home so I could use this ingenious basket from the photo on right-hand side – cute, isn’t it? Here are a few more ideas: The Summer heat still persists although I think it is finally getting a bit cooler… Anyway, it’s still the kind of weather which is perfect for sitting-out in the garden or on a shadowed patio – if you’re lucky enough to have one of those. If you do, why not consider turning it into a charming place with furniture pieces straight from rustic herb gardens of Provence? All the below pieces can be ordered with Dibor, and the entire collection can be viewed here. Enjoy! If you’re looking for a perfect Summer wedding gift or a way to add charm and atmosphere to your own kitchen, I recommend you visit the website of Dibor, a UK Internet shop which promises to bring French style to your home. You must definitely visit the Kitchen section – there are charming wooden shelves, egg holders and egg cabinets (!!!) which you’ve never seen before, a beautiful kitchen book stand, bowls, baskets, salad shakers and much, much more. Below you can browse those few of their items which I love most, and you can click here to view Dibor’s entire Kitchen range. Enjoy! The eco-friendly, back-to-nature themed interior design is definitely “in” right now. And I have to admit that some of the ideas it offers are quite creative. One great example is the collection called “ Living Stones” by Stéphanie Marin – a number of sofas, armchairs, puffs and cushions, all designed to resemble oversized pebbles with their shapes and colours. Take a look at the ideas presented on the photos below – very different, very creative, and apparently very comfortable! Now if only I had a house so big that I could spare one spacious room for interior design experiments like that… ;-) You can find more info on Stéphanie and her Living Stones here. Ever wanted to have one piece of furniture which is unique and just makes a statement? Well, I got an option for you – design by Squint. This is one of their creative masterpieces, just to give you an idea what exactly I’m talking about: Squint is a London based design studio and workshop which specializes is luxurious, unique, traditionally made furniture and accessories – sofas, armchairs, tables, mirrors, cabinets etc. Their creations are always bursting with colour, made with a combination of modern and vintage materials, and of course cost a fortune. But I guess if you have a house spacious enough to fit in a piece of furniture like that, then you also have the money to afford it ;-) Anyway, it’s definitely a pleasure to look at these – so let’s do it! Here are is a selection of sofas, I think I like the two shown on the first three photos best: And here are equally outrageous armchairs – I wonder if they’d be comfortable, too? Squint also transfers its patchwork-like patterns to furniture without upholstery – e.g. cabinet. Here’s the result – what do you think? I think it looks better on sofas and chairs, but original and creative it certainly is. Visit the Squint’s website by clicking here – and browse through the entire range of their creations.
Images and photography seem to be all the rage in the world of interior design – and it’s a trend I definitely applaud. So we’ve seen the wall, cupboard and mirror stickers, photos framed in hundreds of ways, posters, wallpapers with photos – and now comes a new idea in this series – photos overprinted on tiles. The concept has been introduced by the French company Okhyo (www.okhyo.com). The idea is for a surface covered with tiles to show one, huge image – each single tile is overprinted with just a small portion of the entire photo. There is a library of standard designs you can choose from for your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room and office, but there is also an extra option of personalizing your tiles masterpiece by having your own photo printed on it! Let’s take a look at a few standard Okhyo designs. Now, I have to say I definitely wouldn’t mind to take a shower in a shower cabin looking like this: Or taking a relaxing bath in such an exotic bathroom: For the kitchen, I like those two designs most: And for the living room these are my two definite favourites – I love everything which is black-white-red, and even though I’m usually not so much into modern interiors, but these I absolutely adore: You can view the entire gallery of tile designs at www.okhyo.com
While undestanding the laws of physics has never been my strong suit, I do realize that they are an underlying basis for many of the achievemnts of today’s civilization. For exapmle, their clever application is the reason why this paperboard stool can actually be a stool, as in withstand the weight of the person sitting on it. I think we can agree that it’s one of the more original and fun stools out there – it really is made from paperboard, with a high-quality glossy print on the outside, and with a few clever paperboard supports inside. It’s flat when you buy it, and it takes about 15 seconds to put it together – I’m speaking from experience here, since I’ve bought the one shown on the photo above almost 2 years ago, and even though it’s being used intensively, it’s still in perfect shape. It comes in one size but with a wide variety of prints – see the gallery below for examples. It can be used as a sitting stool, a small coffee or bedsite table or for whatever purpose you may find for it. In ither words, it’s a very useful and clever piece of furniture which you can be your for around 23EUR only. In Tha Hague you can buy it in the Kado om de Hoek, or you can buy it online on the shop’s website. This time we’re looking at bedrooms. Definitely a key element of every home, even though when you really think about it you don’t spend that much time there while fully conscious and awake ;-)
Interior design magazines tend to promote bedrooms either almost entirely done in white or arranged in bold colours and with surprising decorations. An ideal bedroom – one you’re not afraid to enter (God forbid you put some dirt on the lush white carpets) and one which does not keep you awake with its clash of aggressive colours – is probably somewhere in the middle. Below a selection of photos with definitely interesting bedroom designs – decide for yourself what’s yours ideal type and how far would you go with your bedroom creativity? :-) You can find more at http://www.housebeautiful.com |
